Terms of use

These terms govern your use of the website at https://pekajeo.site/. By opening any page you accept them. If you do not accept them, please stop using the site.

1. Who we are

This website is published by Sunbird Living, an independent editorial project based in Cape Town, South Africa. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean Sunbird Living; "you" means any person using the site. Contact details are in section 13 and on the contact page.

2. Health disclaimer

Everything published here is general information for a general adult audience. It is not medical advice, it is not a diagnosis, and it does not create a practitioner–patient relationship of any kind.

  • Nothing on this site should be used to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition.
  • Nothing here replaces advice from a doctor, nurse, pharmacist, registered dietitian, biokineticist, physiotherapist or other qualified professional who knows your history.
  • Do not delay seeking professional advice, and do not stop or change prescribed treatment, because of something you read here.
  • Interactive features on this site, including the three-question quiz on the home page, are reading suggestions only. They do not assess your health and produce no clinical result.
  • If you have symptoms that worry you, contact a healthcare provider. In an emergency in South Africa, call 10177 for an ambulance, or 112 from a mobile phone.

Before starting a new exercise routine or making a significant change to your diet — particularly if you are pregnant, are over 65, are recovering from injury or surgery, or live with a chronic condition — speak to a qualified professional first.

3. Permitted use

You may read, print and share our articles for your own personal, non-commercial use, and link to any page on the site. You may not:

  • republish substantial parts of the site, in any medium, without written permission;
  • present our material as your own, or remove attribution from it;
  • use the site or its content for commercial purposes, including resale, paid courses or advertising material, without written permission;
  • use automated tools to scrape, mirror or harvest the site in a way that places an unreasonable load on the server;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the site, its server or connected systems;
  • introduce malicious code, or interfere with the availability of the site for other readers;
  • use the contact form to send unlawful, abusive or misleading material, or unsolicited commercial messages.

Teachers, community health workers and non-profit organisations who wish to reproduce an article are usually granted permission on request. Write to us and say what you would like to use and where.

4. Intellectual property

All text, illustrations, layout, code and the Sunbird Living name and logo are protected by copyright and remain our property or that of our licensors, except where a third party is credited. Nothing in these terms transfers any right in that material to you, beyond the limited permission set out in section 3.

Short quotations for the purposes of review, criticism, reporting or teaching are permitted under applicable copyright law, provided the source is named and a link to the original page is included.

5. Messages you send us

When you send a question, correction or topic suggestion, you confirm that the material is yours to send and does not infringe anyone else's rights. You keep ownership of what you write. By sending it, you give us permission to read it, act on it, and — where it leads to a published correction or an article — refer to its substance without identifying you, unless you have asked us to credit you.

Please do not send confidential material, personal health information, or anything you would not want an editorial team to read.

6. Accuracy and corrections

We take reasonable care to make articles accurate at the date of publication, and we name our sources. Health guidance changes, and an article that was correct two years ago may no longer reflect current recommendations. We do not warrant that any page is complete, current or error-free.

If you find a mistake, write to corrections@pekajeo.site. Substantive corrections are made in the article itself with a dated note explaining what changed.

7. Availability

The site is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We may change, suspend, restrict or withdraw any part of it, at any time, without notice. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access, and we are not responsible for faults in your device, browser or internet connection.

Where we link to another website — a public health body, a journal, a research group — that link is offered as a reference. We do not control those sites, do not endorse everything on them, and are not responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices. Read their own terms and privacy notices before relying on them.

9. Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for any loss or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, this website or its content, including indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, or loss of data.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Consumers keep all rights granted to them by mandatory law, including under the South African Consumer Protection Act, 2008.

10. Privacy

Our handling of personal data is described in the Privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

11. Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. The version number and date at the top of the page show when they last changed. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the revised terms. If a provision is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the rest remains in force.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa, and disputes fall to the jurisdiction of the South African courts. If you are a consumer resident in the European Union, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence.
